New blog, new stuff

Dear faithful few,

We've set up a new blog, courtesy of Queen's tech folk, at http://amnesty.society.qub.ac.uk.  That's super easy to remember, right?

Also, you can now find us on Facebook and Twitter.

I fear this will be the last you see of us on Blogger(spot?).  But we will catch you elsewhere on the internets.

This video really sums up Amnesty's whole campaign for Burma and shows how international the plight of Burma has become and how easy it is to stand up and take action

Ready....Get Set.....STICKER!!

This is the official call for the start of QUB amnesty stickering competition 2010. Starting next week I will be giving out LOADS of stickers to all our members and their challenge is to get it in the most exciting, unusual place they can, as well as plastering Belfast with them. When the sticker has been placed take a picture of it (its 2010 people everyone has picture phones) then upload to the blog where we can all be the judge of the best. But I'm not just thinking local oh no, our stickering campaign shall be global mmwwwhhhahhahhaha....ok just a little carried away but to just feel you with a little sense of competition here are some of the fab pictures taken last year including Connor who went above and beyond and almost got arrested in the Louvre (I am not suggesting that, but that it is quite some dedication....)

This week so the beginning of our secret sneaky covert undercover mission......ok more than carried away now, But this week we have began our assault on the library sneaking in Burma bookmarks into the books, not only an important academic tool but also give a little bit of info of our Burmese campaign. This goes out to a plea to anyone who come across one of our bookmarks, keep it, use it, love it and if you are a angry library person, sorry but it all has to be done in the name of human rights! So go forth people get stickering, get book marking and try not to get arrested.

Introducing.......

So we at Amnesty International QUB have finally decided to go global and publish a blog, its about time the whole world knows about out exploits. So far we have been active in many campaigns including "Stop Violence Against Women" and "Demand Dignity" but this autumns buzz word is Burma! So far we have a very visual campaign planned to enlighten out student audience about the many human rights abuses that happen every day in Burma. Our activism will concentrate on "Generation '88" a group of Burmese’s nationals who were are the forefront of the fist uprising against the military Junta in 1988 and have suffered harsh reprisals ever since. More than anything this campaign is an awareness raising campaign as we feel the more the international audience knows about the atrocities happening in Burma the more pressure will be put on the regime to change. After the serious bit here comes the fun..... We are planning a big "Raise your hand for justice" starting with the fantastic photo campaign lead by amnesty and joined in by many big political faces around the world http://vimeo.com/13098894. So what out for a mug shots taking place some time!
